About the Role
We are seeking a knowledgeable and driven D&O Insurance Underwriter to join our growing team in New York. This role is responsible for evaluating, pricing, and managing a portfolio of Directors & Officers (D&O) insurance risks across various industries, with a focus on publicly traded and private companies. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in financial analysis, legal and regulatory frameworks, and market trends within the D&O insurance space.
Key Responsibilities

Risk Assessment: Analyze submissions to evaluate the quality and suitability of D&O risks, including financial statements, legal history, management structure, and governance practices.

Underwriting Strategy: Develop and execute underwriting strategies tailored to various client segments including public, private, and non-profit organizations.

Pricing & Structuring: Calculate premiums and structure policies in line with risk appetite, regulatory requirements, and company guidelines.

Client & Broker Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and partners to support new business and renewals.

Portfolio Management: Monitor and manage the performance of the D&O book of business to ensure profitability and alignment with underwriting goals.

Market Intelligence: Stay up-to-date with developments in financial markets, corporate governance, and litigation trends impacting D&O exposures.

Compliance: Ensure adherence to internal underwriting standards and external regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- 3–7 years of experience in D&O underwriting or financial lines (FI, EPL, E&O, etc.) with a carrier or MGA.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business, law, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of D&O insurance products, market dynamics, and legal/regulatory issues.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret financial statements and assess creditworthiness.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Familiarity with underwriting tools, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both private and public company D&O underwriting.
- Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, RPLU) a plus.
- Knowledge of New York regulatory landscape is advantageous.
