Role Overview

WestPac Wealth Partners is seeking an experienced financial planning professional to join our advisory team in a senior planning and client relationship role. This position is designed for someone who enjoys working closely with business owners and closely held companies, thrives in a collaborative planning environment, and wants meaningful exposure to complex financial, tax, and investment planning.

This role blends financial planning, investment coordination, tax analysis, and professional collaboration. The individual will work closely with senior advisors on complex planning cases involving business owners, advanced tax considerations, and multi-disciplinary coordination, while independently managing a subset of client relationships. The role does not require someone to source or find clients.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Planning & Business Owner Strategy

  • Analyze personal and business financial situations for clients, with a focus on business owners and closely held companies
  • Identify planning opportunities related to entity structure, compensation strategy, cash flow, retirement planning, and risk management
  • Support the development and implementation of holistic financial plans aligned with client goals

Investment Portfolio Review & Coordination

  • Review and analyze client investment portfolios for alignment with planning objectives
  • Assist with portfolio monitoring, rebalancing coordination, and cash positioning decisions
  • Prepare clear, client-friendly summaries connecting investment strategy to overall planning

Tax & Financial Statement Review

  • Review personal and business tax returns to identify planning opportunities (e.g., loss carryforwards, retirement strategies, QBI considerations)
  • Analyze business financials (P&Ls, balance sheets) to uncover planning insights and inefficiencies
  • Coordinate with CPAs to ensure planning strategies are implemented correctly

Professional Coordination

  • Serve as a planning quarterback by coordinating with estate planning attorneys, business attorneys, CPAs, TPAs, and banking partners
  • Track planning initiatives and follow up with outside professionals to keep client planning moving forward

Client Relationship Management

  • Independently manage a subset of smaller or emerging client relationships
  • Lead review meetings, address planning questions, and oversee implementation of agreed-upon strategies
  • Escalate complex or novel planning matters to senior advisors when appropriate

Decision-Making & Ownership

  • Own day-to-day planning analysis and coordination for assigned clients
  • Make independent planning recommendations within established firm frameworks
  • Translate planning strategy into implementation by coordinating across clients and outside professionals
  • Bring complex or non-standard strategies to senior advisors for collaborative review

Team Environment

  • Work closely with senior advisors on complex business-owner planning cases
  • Collaborate regularly with experienced CPAs, estate planning attorneys, business attorneys, and banking partners
  • Operate in a planning-first culture that values thoughtful analysis, preparation, and follow-through

What Success Looks Like

  • Planning initiatives move forward efficiently without unnecessary escalation
  • Clients experience clarity, follow-through, and confidence in the planning process
  • Senior advisors gain capacity to focus on higher-level strategy, growth, and complex cases

Professional Development & Growth

  • Opportunity to take on increasing responsibility across client relationships and planning complexity
  • Exposure to advanced business-owner, tax, and estate planning cases
  • Over time, this role is expected to take primary planning responsibility for a defined group of client relationships as experience and trust are earned

Qualifications Required

  • Advanced degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CFP®, CFA, or CPA are highly desirable, particularly for candidates with advanced tax or investment backgrounds
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning or wealth management
  • Strong understanding of financial planning, investments, and tax fundamentals
  • Experience reviewing personal and business tax returns
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute business strategies, with a strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • Comfortable collaborating with CPAs, attorneys, and other outside professionals
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with financial planning software, Microsoft suite, CRMs, and investment management platforms
