Director of Operations
Location: Based out of Staten Island NY
Summary:
The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of elevator systems within a facility or across multiple buildings. This role supervises elevator technicians and contractors, ensures compliance with safety regulations and codes, and maintains reliable and safe elevator operations.
Responsibilities:
1. Supervision & Team Management
- Supervise elevator technicians and maintenance staff.
- Provide training and technical guidance to team members.
- Stay in contact with the Service Manager throughout the workday.
- Monitor staff performance and ensure work quality and safety compliance.
2. Maintenance & Repair Oversight
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs for elevators, escalators, and lifts.
- Ensure timely repair of mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
- Coordinate troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
- Maintain elevator performance and minimize downtime.
3. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate annual inspections and certification with regulatory authorities.
- Implement safety policies and conduct safety meetings.
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance and safety procedures.
4. Contractor & Vendor Coordination
- Work with external elevator service providers and contractors.
- Coordinate installation or modernization projects.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain maintenance logs, inspection records, and repair reports.
- Track equipment performance and maintenance schedules.
- Provide reports to management on elevator condition, repairs, and improvements.
Qualifications:
- Have a minimum of ten (10) years of satisfactory experience within the fifteen (15) years immediately preceding the potential exam application date supervising the assembly, installation, maintenance, repair, design or inspection of elevators.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of elevator systems, controls, and safety mechanisms.
- Leadership and team management abilities.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, shafts, and confined spaces.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to respond to emergency service calls when needed.
Work may involve commercial buildings, hospitals, hotels, residential complexes, or industrial facilities. May require on-call or after-hours work for emergency repairs.
