Vertical Transportation Designer / Drafting Engineer

Location: New York City or Northern New Jersey

Employment Type: Full-Time


We are seeking a Drafting Engineer / Designer to support the design and modernization of elevator and escalator systems for commercial buildings, healthcare facilities, transportation infrastructure, and large residential developments. In this role, you will work closely with vertical transportation consultants, engineers, architects, and building owners to develop detailed drawings and specifications used for elevator modernization, new construction, and equipment replacement projects.

Your drawings will be used by elevator contractors and manufacturers to fabricate, install, and modernize vertical transportation systems, so accuracy and attention to detail are critical.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed elevator and escalator layout drawings for modernization and new construction projects.
  • Produce construction-level drawings and equipment layouts suitable for bidding and installation.
  • Create machine room layouts, hoistway sections, pit details, and equipment arrangements.
  • Perform Measurements.
  • Coordinate elevator drawings with architectural, structural, and MEP plans.
  • Assist engineers in preparing technical specifications and bid documents.
  • Review contractor shop drawings for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support traffic analysis and equipment selection studies.
  • Update drawings throughout project lifecycle based on field conditions.
  • Maintain documentation and drawing revisions for project records.


Requirements:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Engineering Technology
  • Drafting / Design Technology or related field
  • 2–5+ years of drafting or design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (required).
  • Experience with Revit or BIM is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce build-ready drawings.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.


Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with elevator or escalator systems.
  • Experience working with:
  • architectural firms
  • engineering consultants
  • elevator contractors
  • Knowledge of ASME A17.1 / elevator codes is a plus.
