Clutch is looking for an experienced VP, Media Relations for a client of ours. Our client is an integrated creative communications agency that blends PR, digital, and social to create creative that earns. This role is for a high-level strategist who still loves the thrill of the pitch and has the black book to prove it.


Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Act as a senior counselor to marquee clients, developing high-level media strategies that align with business goals and cultural trends.
  • Earned Media Excellence: Lead the agency’s media relations department, setting the standard for what "great" looks like in a modern earned-media landscape.
  • Network Cultivation: Maintain and leverage deep, high-level relationships with top-tier business, consumer, tech, and lifestyle journalists and editors.
  • Storymining & Narrative Building: Identify unique story angles and "sellable" moments for brands, turning complex client initiatives into compelling media narratives.
  • Team Mentorship: Manage and grow a team of media specialists, fostering an environment of continuous learning, creative pitching, and professional development.
  • Crisis & Reputation Management: Provide senior-level support for sensitive client issues, managing rapid-response media needs and reputation safeguarding.
  • Integration: Collaborate cross-functionally with Creative, Social, and Strategy teams to ensure media relations is baked into the "big idea" from inception.
  • New Business: Lead the media strategy portion of new business pitches, articulating the agency's unique approach to earned media.


Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in public relations or media relations, ideally within a fast-paced agency environment.
  • Proven Track Record: A portfolio of significant placements in top-tier national outlets (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Today Show, etc.).
  • Sector Versatility: Experience managing media strategy across diverse sectors such as Consumer Tech, Food & Beverage, Social Impact, and B2B.
  • Leadership Gravity: Experience leading and scaling teams, with a focus on mentorship and high-volume output.
  • Digital Fluency: A deep understanding of how earned media lives and breathes across social platforms and digital ecosystems.
  • Exceptional Writing: The ability to craft pitches and op-eds that journalists actually want to read.
  • Cultural Alignment: A passion for building inclusive environments and a desire to work for a "Best Places to Work" caliber agency.
