Clutch is looking for an experienced VP, Media Relations with media agency experience for a client of ours. This role is designed for a "media-first" thinker—someone who lives and breathes the news cycle and has the high-level connections to place stories that define industries. You will lead the charge in architecting earned media strategies, managing crisis communications, and serving as a senior advisor to clients on how to navigate the complex modern media landscape.

As a leader within the firm, you will oversee a team of media specialists, ensuring that pitching efforts are proactive, creative, and data-driven.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Earned Media Strategy: Architect and oversee the execution of comprehensive media relations programs that drive measurable results and brand authority.
  • Top-Tier Media Outreach: Leverage and expand an elite network of contacts across national business, trade, and consumer media to secure high-impact placements.
  • Executive Media Training: Prepare and coach client executives for high-stakes interviews, press conferences, and public appearances.
  • Crisis & Issues Management: Act as a lead strategist in navigating sensitive media environments, protecting client reputations through proactive and reactive communications.
  • Media Insights & Analytics: Utilize media monitoring and analytics tools to track sentiment, share of voice, and campaign impact, translating these metrics into strategic advice.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Direct and develop a team of media specialists, fostering an environment of storytelling excellence and relentless pursuit of coverage.


Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven Media Track Record: Extensive experience in a senior media relations role within a PR agency or high-growth corporate communications team.
  • Deep Journalist Network: A robust "Rolodex" of active relationships with editors, producers, and reporters at major national and international outlets.
  • Strategic Storytelling: Ability to identify and "package" compelling narratives that resonate with journalists and align with client business goals.
  • Collaborative Capability: Adept at working with creative and social teams to ensure earned media strategies are integrated into broader multi-channel campaigns.
  • Analytical Approach: Proficiency in leveraging media measurement tools to prove the ROI of earned media efforts.
  • Experience Level: Ideally 10+ years of experience in public relations or journalism with a focus on media strategy.
