Job Title: Deburring Operator (Precision Finisher)

Location: Roscoe, IL

Department: Secondary Operations / Finishing

Role Summary

The Deburring Operator is responsible for the final "artistic" touch on high-precision gears and components. You will use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized finishing equipment to remove burrs, smooth sharp edges, and polish surfaces to exacting specifications. At our client, this role is critical to maintaining our "Excellence Without Exception" standard, ensuring that every part is functionally perfect and aesthetically flawless.

Key Responsibilities

  • Precision Finishing: Remove burrs and sharp edges from complex gear teeth, splines, and housings using hand files, scrapers, and air-driven rotary tools.
  • Micro-Deburring: Work under microscopes or high-magnification lamps to clean miniature gears where tolerances are measured in microns.
  • Edge Breaking: Follow engineering prints to "break edges" to specific radii or chamfers without damaging critical gear geometry.
  • Surface Blasting: Operate bead blasters, vibratory finishing bowls, or tumbling equipment to achieve required surface finishes.
  • Visual Inspection: Conduct 100% visual inspection of finished parts to ensure they meet the aesthetic and functional requirements of aerospace and medical customers.
  • Careful Handling: Handle high-value, finish-ground parts with extreme care to prevent nicks, scratches, or corrosion (using proper rust preventatives).

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience in a precision manufacturing environment (medical, aerospace, or automotive) is preferred, but we will train individuals with high manual dexterity.
  • Hand-Eye Coordination: Exceptional steady hands and the ability to perform repetitive, detailed work for long periods.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Ability to read basic shop drawings and understand symbols for surface finish and edge requirements.
  • Tool Proficiency: Experience with Dremel tools, pneumatic grinders, Scotch-Brite wheels, and various hand scrapers.
  • Attention to Detail: A "perfectionist" mindset; the ability to spot a defect that others might miss.
