The Opportunity
At our client, we don’t just make parts; we make the components that power the Mars Rover, high-performance racing engines, and critical aerospace systems. As a Gear Cutting Machinist, you will be operating the most advanced gear-production technology in the world. We are looking for a precision-driven individual who understands the geometry of motion and takes pride in producing "Excellence Without Exception."
Key Responsibilities
-
Specialized Setup: Set up and operate CNC and manual gear-cutting machines, including Gear Hobbers, Gear Shapers, and Thread Millers.
-
Precision Machining: Execute complex gear-cutting operations on a variety of high-performance materials (stainless, titanium, bronze, and exotics).
-
Geometry Verification: Ensure all gear tooth profiles, leads, and pitches meet AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association) standards.
-
In-Process Inspection: Use specialized gear-checking equipment, as well as traditional micrometers and over-pin measurements, to verify part accuracy.
-
Technical Troubleshooting: Identify and correct issues such as runout, tooth spacing errors, or surface finish inconsistencies.

Gear Theory: A solid understanding of gear terminology (DP, Module, Pressure Angle, Lead, and Involute profiles).
-
Math Skills: Strong proficiency in shop math, specifically trigonometry, for calculating gear dimensions and machine offsets.
-
Blueprint Literacy: Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T, with a focus on gear-specific notations.
-
Quality Standard: Experience working within ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.
