Job Title: CNC Lathe Machinist

Location: Roscoe, IL

Shift: 1st

Role Overview

As a CNC Lathe Machinist at our client, you will be responsible for producing high-precision gear blanks and components that meet rigorous industry standards. We are looking for a craftsperson who takes pride in "the art of the cut"—someone who understands that in our shop, tolerances aren't just suggestions; they are the foundation of our reputation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setup & Operation: Set up and operate CNC Turning Centers (such as Mori Seiki, Okuma, or Hardinge) to perform complex machining operations on a variety of materials.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications.
  • Quality Control: Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring tools including micrometers, bore gages, and optical comparators.
  • Optimization: Monitor tool wear and perform necessary offsets or tool changes to maintain part integrity and maximize efficiency.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance on machines to ensure long-term reliability and safety.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in CNC Lathe setup and operation in a high-precision environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc or Siemens controls is highly preferred.
  • Precision: Ability to hold tight tolerances (often within $\pm 0.0001$ inches).
  • Mathematical Proficiency: Strong understanding of shop math, including trigonometry and geometry.
  • Materials Knowledge: Experience machining various alloys, stainless steels, and exotic metals common in gear manufacturing.

The Fit

  • Quality Mindset: You understand that "good enough" isn't enough when parts are destined for Mars or a patient’s heart.
  • Continuous Learner: You are eager to stay updated on the latest tooling and machining technologies.
  • Collaborative: You work well with engineers and lead machinists to troubleshoot complex setups.
