Program Overview

Unlock your potential with the Fall 2026 LA Tech Rising Internship Program (Software Engineering & Cybersecurity) -- a paid, 12-week internship designed for early-career talent ages across Los Angeles County.


This program offers the opportunity to get experience in high-growth tech careers while working with experienced professionals in the field. The internship focuses on Software Engineering and Cybersecurity.


Fall 2026 Application Window

Applications open: February 2026

Deadline: Sunday, June 7, 2026

Start Date: Tuesday, August 18th (virtual)

What Interns Get: 

  • Relevant work experience: Most of your time will be spent working on impactful projects with an industry mentor and collaborating with peers. 
  • 1-on-1 mentorship: Get matched with tech professionals who have been in your shoes and can help you figure out your next career step. 
  • Interview practice: Sharpen your skills and gain the confidence to crush your next interview. 
  • Industry drop-ins: Tech industry professionals drop in to talk about what it takes to thrive in tech. 
  • Career workshops: Learn how to communicate your story, build your personal brand, and stand out on LinkedIn and beyond. 
  • Peer community: Connect with other interns across Los Angeles -- build your network for the future. (This is huge!)


Mandatory Engagements: 

Participants are required to:

  • Attend live virtual sessions every Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00-6:30 pm
  • We cannot accommodate a later start time/early dismissal due to other commitments. Please plan accordingly for the live sessions.
  • Attend the In-person intern retreat (Tentatively scheduled for Friday, September 4th)
  • Attend the in-person tech campus site visit (TBD)
  • Attend the in-person Demonstration Day (November or December 2026 - TBD)
  • Attend at least two virtual professional development workshops (hosted monthly) 


Choose Your Project Focus:

  • Software Engineering -- You will learn to build applications, tools, and software solutions that solve real-world problems.
  • Cybersecurity -- You will learn to protect systems, data, and networks by identifying, preventing, and responding to digital threats.

 

[NEW!] Earn Credit Toward a Recognized Pre-Apprenticeship

This internship provides participants with credit toward U.S. Department of Labor-recognized apprenticeships in fields such as cybersecurity, software engineering, AI prompt engineering, and project management. This designation signals to employers and apprenticeship partners that you are better prepared for advanced training or employment opportunities.


Requirements and Eligibility

Required Qualifications:

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 24 (*this is a U.S. Department of Labor requirement)
  • Currently reside in Los Angeles or Los Angeles County (proof will be required if selected*) 
  • Able to commit 10-15 hours/week, including mandatory live virtual sessions every Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00-6:30 pm 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Some exposure to software engineering or cybersecurity concepts (including self-guided learning) or a strong interest in developing technical skills
  • technical projects (even on your own) or a keen interest in wanting to learn more about technical concepts
  • Experience working in collaborative team environments
  • Participation in extracurricular activities demonstrating leadership, curiosity, and a willingness to grow and learn

You do not have to be enrolled in college/university to participate in this internship. We will consider a diverse range of experience!

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to LA-Tech.org's mission to advocate for community and access to tech careers.

LA-Tech.org connects Los Angeles' tech community to talented, untapped individuals across the County. Our work is guided by educating, mobilizing, connecting, and amplifying voices to expand economic opportunity in underserved communities.


Location:

The LA Tech Rising Internship operates exclusively in Los Angeles County. Applicants without a Los Angeles-based address are not eligible at this time. All mandatory in-person events will take place at venues across Los Angeles.


Wage Information

This paid internship is made possible through our partnership with LA County's Youth@Work Program. Compensation is set at California's minimum wage and is not negotiable. Learn more about the Youth@Work Program here.
