SEO & Content Optimization Intern (AI Search Focus)

Friends Outside Los Angeles is seeking an execution-focused SEO intern to support both optimization of existing content and the launch of new content hubs that elevate FOLA’s thought leadership around reentry programs in Los Angeles.

This role offers hands-on experience building organic search into a sustainable growth engine—expanding visibility across Google, AI search platforms, and emerging discovery surfaces.

This is a production-oriented role focused on implementing SEO and AI-search best practices—not strategy development.

What You’ll Do

• Optimize blog and website content (titles, meta descriptions, headers)
• Execute internal linking across key pages
• Support publishing and formatting of new content hubs
• Implement basic schema (FAQ, article) using templates
• Improve content for AI search visibility (answer-focused formatting)
• Track output + performance (traffic, engagement, conversions like donations/downloads)

• SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and AI Search Optimization (AEO)
• Building content systems that drive sustained organic traffic and engagement
• Structuring content for LLM visibility and citations in AI-generated answers
• Supporting initiatives tied directly to organizational outcomes, including increased awareness, engagement, and donor contributions

You’ll leave with transferable experience relevant to modern growth, content, and digital marketing teams.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes
• Comfortable working independently with limited oversight
• Interest in AI search and emerging discovery platforms
• Basic understanding of SEO fundamentals preferred
• Clear communicator who can flag issues and propose solutions

Nice to Have

• Exposure to tools like Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or SEMrush
• Familiarity with CMS platforms (WordPress, Webflow, etc.) is a plus
• Interest in SEO, content, or digital marketing
• Basic understanding of structured data/schema

Engagement Details

• ~160 hours total (project-based internship - 20 hrs/week for 8 weeks)
• Work completed using defined workflows, templates, and documentation
• Weekly deliverables with lightweight performance tracking and check-ins

LA County Subsidy Eligible Position Information 

Subsidy roles require students to have an LA County based address, and be between the ages of 18-24 years old. Once you are placed in a subsidy eligible position you will be required to present the following documents to processed in a Youth Center (AJCC):

• Identification (School or State ID).
• Social Security Card (Please ensure that it is signed).
• Birth Certificate.
• Proof of Los Angeles County Residency, including a postmarked date (Report Card, Transcripts, or any mail that is under the applicant’s name).
• Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination OR valid medical/religious exemption.
• The Youth Center (AJCC) will be paying you for 160 completed hours.
• You will be required to submit timesheets to your youth center (AJCC) to be paid for your time worked.

NOTE: IF YOU WERE ALREADY PLACED IN A SUBSIDY ELIGIBLE POSITION, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO QUALIFY FOR ANOTHER SUBSIDY ELIGIBLE POSITION UNTIL JULY 1ST.
