Full-Stack Development Intern

Part-Time • Remote • LA-Tech Internship Program

ABOUT HYEY

Hyey (hyeycare.com) is a HIPAA-compliant caregiver coordination app built for the “sandwich generation,” the millions of working adults managing care for aging parents while maintaining their own careers and families. We were founded by two working women who lived this challenge firsthand, and we’re building the app they wished had existed.

We’re a lean, mission-driven startup in pre-launch mode, based in Los Angeles. Our MVP was built on a modern, fullstack JavaScript architecture and we’re preparing for our first round of real-user testing. This is an early-stage opportunity to make a meaningful, visible contribution to a product people genuinely need.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a Full-Stack Development Intern who can be our go-to technical resource as Hyey moves from MVP into active testing and iteration. You'll work directly with our founding team and your fingerprints will be on the product.

The focus of this role is the frontend and user experience. You’ll be fixing bugs, improving flows, and helping us ship small features as we learn from real users. You don't need to know our entire stack on day one, just bring strong JavaScript and React fundamentals and be curious, communicate well, and pick things up quickly.

If you've ever had to explain a technical decision to a non-engineer and actually enjoyed it, you'll fit right in here.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

App Maintenance & Bug Fixes

App Maintenance & Bug Fixes

● Triage and resolve bugs identified during user testing of our MVP app

● Ensure stability across our core screens and user flows

● Document issues and fixes clearly so the codebase stays maintainable Feature Development

● Collaborate with founders to scope and build new features as user feedback comes in

● Improve existing app flows for clarity, speed, and ease of use

● Write clean, readable code with an eye toward future scalability UX & Design Improvements

● Identify friction points in the user flow and implement fixes

● Improve visual consistency and responsiveness across devices ● Collaborate with founders on layout and interaction decisions; good instincts and a willingness to iterate matter more than a design background

Website

● Help maintain and update our WordPress website as content changes ● Assist with basic technical SEO improvements (page speed, meta tags, sitemap)

Our Stack

Familiarity with the core items is what matters, and we expect you'll learn the rest on the job:

● Frontend: React, Next.js, JavaScript

● Backend: Node.js via Next.js API routes

● Database: Firebase Firestore

● Authentication: Firebase Authentication

● AI: Google Gemini API (you'll gain exposure to this, not be responsible for it) ● Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

● Website: WordPress

● Version Control: Git / GitHub

What You Bring

● Solid fundamentals in JavaScript and React (Next.js experience is a plus but not required)

● Some experience working with APIs and databases

● Comfort with Git and basic version control workflows

● A debugging mindset — you ask "why" before you ask "how do I fix it" ● Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with a non-technical team ● A GitHub profile or portfolio showing something you've built is encouraged, not required

● Bonus: any exposure to Firebase, GCP, or AI/LLM APIs

● Genuine interest in health tech, caregiving, or social impact

DETAILS

● Location: Remote

● Hours: 15-20hrs/week

● Duration: 8-10 weeks

● Compensation: $17.87/hr

● Start Date: TBD
