Business Development Intern

OpenMic is a music networking app & service built to connect musicians with their best fit collaborator for any project. Think dating app for music collaborators. We are a start-up based out of Los Angeles, looking to grow our user base and community relationships. Additionally, we are expanding into a one-on-one match making service with our clients to provide them referrals for their upcoming projects.

We're looking for a curious, community-minded intern who loves music and wants to help us grow from the ground up. You'll be doing meaningful outreach, talking to real musicians, and helping us understand where OpenMic belongs next.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source musicians and music creators to join the platform through Instagram, Facebook groups, Threads, Reddit, and other community spaces where artists already gather.
  • Identify opportunities to connect with current users for customer interviews, and conduct those conversations to help us better understand how musicians experience OpenMic.
  • Research smaller, grassroots music communities across the US: how they're organized, how active they are, what kind of networking events they host, and which cities show the most potential for OpenMic to build a strong local presence.
  • Research and identify potential partners, clients, and strategic opportunities aligned with fostering a strong music community.
  • Track and report on outreach performance metrics and conversion rates.
  • Analyze market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities for OpenMic to play a larger role in music community development.

Qualifications:

  • A musician yourself, or a deep understanding in music culture & industry. An understanding of different genres, instruments, and skillsets is crucial to communicating with our users.
  • Confident, kind, and professional in outreach and relationship-building efforts.
  • Curious and research-oriented: a knack for digging into communities, asking insightful questions, and surfacing insights.
  • Self-directed and reliable in a remote, async environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with interest in growth strategy and partnerships.
  • Interest in sales, partnerships, startups, or revenue strategy.
  • Bonus: experience with social media community spaces, grassroots organizing, or user research

Role Details

  • Location: Remote position
  • Hours: 10-15 hours a week
  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Pay: $17.87/hr

Our mission is to make musicians feel seen in their communities and with their collaborators. We are a space that is safe, inclusive, and grounded in real human connection.
