Automation Engineer Intern

El Segundo, CA — On-site

About Us

We're on a mission to change the tire industry—how it's delivered and how it's experienced. A pioneer in the automotive e-commerce industry, we take pride in our extensive selection of top-name brands and budget-friendly options, ensuring our customers find the perfect tire to suit their needs.

What sets us apart is that we're not just an e-commerce company—we're a technology and logistics platform. Across multiple business verticals, we leverage cutting-edge software, data, and operational expertise to modernize industries that have historically lacked access to innovative technology. By combining world-class engineering with deep operational knowledge, we're creating smarter, more efficient ways for businesses and customers to connect.

We value initiative, rapid execution, and proactive problem-solving, with a highly collaborative culture where ideas are shared openly, decisions are made quickly, and team members are empowered to drive meaningful impact regardless of title or tenure.

As part of our growing and dynamic team, you'll contribute to our commitment to exceptional service, innovation, and customer satisfaction. Embrace the opportunity to be a driving force behind one of the fastest-growing technology-driven companies in the U.S. and apply now!

About the Role

We're looking for someone to take manual, repetitive tasks off the plates of our data management, input, and cleaning team through automation solutions. You'll be given a specific piece of that work to focus on — proposing an approach, designing the solution, and executing on it. You'll work closely with the ops and data team whose processes you're automating, since understanding their day-to-day is half the job.

Some of these automations will make use of AI, and you'll have access to Claude AI tools and APIs where they're the right fit. Others will simply be solid, well-written code. Part of the job is judging which approach actually solves the problem best. This is a role for someone who sees a manual, repetitive process and starts thinking about how to make it disappear.

You'll have ownership over your project while working closely with experienced members of the operations and data teams. Success in this role requires a high degree of initiative and comfort working independently.

We welcome applications from current students, recent graduates, and self-taught builders who can demonstrate technical aptitude through coursework, projects, internships, or professional experience. This role is structured as an internship, with the potential to transition into a full-time, entry-level Automation Engineer position based on performance and business needs.

What You'll Do

  • Dig into your assigned piece of the data management, input, and cleaning workflow — working alongside the team to understand how that portion of the workflow is performed today and where the manual effort exists.
  • Scope and propose an approach to automating the manual, repetitive, or error-prone parts of that workflow.
  • Design, build, and test your solution — using AI where it's the right tool, and clean, well-documented code (Python, JavaScript, or Bash) where it isn't.
  • Lean on Claude AI tools and APIs where they add real value.
  • Measure the impact of what you build (time saved, errors reduced, throughput gained) and iterate.
  • Document your solution and keep automation assets organized in shared repositories. What You Should Have
  • Some hands-on experience with automation, scripting, or a related technical area — whether from prior jobs, internships, coursework, or substantial personal projects. We're open to a range of experience levels.
  • A genuine self-starter who can scope, build, and ship with minimal direction.
  • Comfort with at least one scripting language (Python, JavaScript, or Bash).
  • A working understanding of REST APIs, webhooks, and data transformation concepts — or the drive to pick them up quickly.
  • A bias toward action and experimentation — you'd rather build a prototype than write a proposal about one.
  • Strong problem-solving instincts and the judgment to pick the right approach for each problem.
  • Clear written communication and solid documentation habits.
  • Able to work full-time, on-site in our El Segundo office.

Preferred (but not required)

  • Exposure to version control (Git) and basic CI/CD concepts.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) at any level.
  • A background in a technical degree program, or equivalent self-directed learning.
  • Prior work or coursework involving agentic AI.

Why This Role

  • Potential to convert into a full-time, entry-level Automation Engineer role for the right candidate.
  • Real ownership of a defined automation problem, from scoping through execution.
  • Access to Claude AI tools and APIs, plus the latitude to use plain code where it's the better solution.
  • Real, visible impact — the work you automate is work the team does every day.
  • A front-row seat at a high-growth company scaling aggressively.

Equal Opportunity Employer

We value diversity, equity, and inclusion at our company. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We encourage all to apply — you will be welcomed and included as a team member and valued for your contributions and who you are.
