Atrium Energy Inc.
Customer Operations Intern
Why Atrium
Atrium is an AI-native startup that transforms commercial buildings into financial powerhouses. Our platform continuously monitors and optimizes building systems—smart thermostats that integrate with hotel booking data, grid-responsive heat pump water heaters, optimized laundry systems that cut gas usage and GHG emissions, real-time power quality monitoring, and battery systems and other DERs that arbitrage electricity prices against the grid.
Owners of building-based businesses can see $20-100K+ in new annual cash flow per building from our solutions and live optimization. Our AI handles the analysis, orchestrates the upgrades, and keeps optimizing their buildings over time.
We currently serve 45+ properties across California—primarily hotels including Marriott, Hilton, IHG, and Wyndham franchisees—and expect to reach hundreds of properties by year's end. Our founding team brings 20+ years of experience from Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, and other industry leaders.
Why This Role
We're hiring this as a remote 8-week paid internship with intent to convert to a long-term position. You’ll operate AI systems that coordinate real-world outcomes—a mode of work that will soon become the industry norm.
This is an AI-driven operations role with real-world impact. You'll work inside our platform daily—using AI-powered program management tools to orchestrate the steps that transform customer buildings into financial powerhouses. That means coordinating with solution providers, tracking project milestones, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks across 1,000+ concurrent projects.
Our goal is to get to where the AI does 95% of the heavy lifting across a large number of concurrent projects —surfacing recommended next steps, prioritizing what needs attention, tracking timelines. Your job is to act on recommendations that make sense, catch the ones that don't, and collaborate with our software team to improve the system where it's falling short.
This is early-stage. You'll work directly with founders and a small team. You'll see how decisions get made and why. When something breaks, you'll help fix it. When we need a new process, you might build it.
Your Background
We're looking for an intellectually curious, highly proactive, and genuinely excited individual ready to help our customers succeed and scale our AI platform. The ideal candidate combines technical aptitude with strong operational and interpersonal skills and thrives in the dynamic environment of an early-stage, AI-native startup.
You should have:
● Recently completed a degree in Business, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field.
● Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts or project issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
● A "customer-first" mindset and genuine enthusiasm for problem-solving and delivering exceptional results.
● High technical literacy and comfort with rapidly learning new software platforms and understanding systems logic.
● Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail, essential for coordinating 1,000+ concurrent projects.
● The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, including proposing solutions to improve AI-driven workflows.
You'll thrive here if you:
● Are motivated by the opportunity to shape a system, not just execute a process, and are not afraid to challenge an AI recommendation when it doesn't align with real-world outcomes.
● Are comfortable with the ambiguity and fast-paced nature of our startup.
● Can quickly balance multiple priorities and adapt as product needs or operational focus changes.
● Value collaboration and enjoy working directly with founders, software engineers, and cross-functional teams to improve an AI platform.
● Want to gain broad, hands-on exposure to how a B2B technology company operates from customer acquisition through retention.
What You’ll Do
● Working in the Atrium platform daily to review AI-generated recommendations and act on the ones that make sense
● Identifying patterns where the AI recommendations miss the mark and collaborating with our software team to improve the system
● Coordinating with solution providers to keep projects moving—following up on timelines, resolving blockers, confirming milestones
● Monitoring project status across the portfolio and escalating issues before they become problems
● Driving customer engagement with our self-service platform so property owners can track progress and outcomes without relying on us
● Helping build and refine operational processes as we scale to thousands of properties with active solutions
● Helping drive continuous improvement, working to maximize automation and streamlining of our operations.
● Jumping in on whatever needs doing—this is a small team and roles aren't rigid
