Stems LLC + Neighbors & Friends Brands

Social Media Intern

About Us

Stems LLC is a Black woman-owned, community-centered hospitality company bringing people together through food, storytelling, and meaningful experiences. Our family of brands and community initiatives includes Stems Catering & Experiences, Neighbors & Friends Café, Neighbors & Friends: The Kitchen, and No Neighbor Left Behind. Stems has created catering experiences, grazing installations, corporate events, and large-scale brand activations for clients and organizations including Neutrogena, the NFL, the NBA, Disney, Paramount, Netflix, Coca-Cola, Trader Joe’s, Caltech, and more.

Neighbors & Friends Café is a neighborhood café and market where neighbors become friends. Neighbors & Friends: The Kitchen is a full-service neighborhood restaurant and gathering space where friends become family.

No Neighbor Left Behind is our nonprofit community-impact organization, created to provide nourishment, resources, and meaningful support to neighbors experiencing hardship. What began as an emergency response to the Eaton Fire grew into an ongoing commitment to reciprocal community care. Through the support of hundreds of volunteers, No Neighbor Left Behind has served thousands of meals, connected families with direct resources, and created programs centered on nourishment, wellness, sustainability, and belonging.

Across every brand, we believe hospitality is about more than serving food. It is about making people feel seen, creating opportunities for connection, highlighting local makers, and building reciprocal community. Whether we are serving a neighborhood guest, supporting a family, or producing an experience for a globally recognized brand, we bring the same level of care, creativity, and attention to detail.

Our culture is creative, collaborative, fast-moving, and community-first. We value initiative, clear communication, resourcefulness, follow-through, and people who are willing to help where they are needed. We are building growing brands, so team members must be comfortable adapting, learning, contributing ideas, and helping us tell our story at every level.

About the Position

The Social Media Intern will help tell the stories of Stems and the Neighbors & Friends brands across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other digital platforms.

This is a hands-on role for someone interested in hospitality, food, content creation, community building, and brand storytelling. The intern will assist with content planning, photography, short-form video, copywriting, audience engagement, and performance tracking.

Because our best content comes from real people, food, events, and guest experiences, this position requires regular in-person content capture at our locations and events. The ideal candidate can identify meaningful moments, translate them into engaging content, and maintain the distinct voice of each brand.

The role requires out-of-the-box thinking, a little rule-bending, strong creative instincts, and the ability to balance trends with authentic storytelling.

What You Will Do

● Research social media trends, hospitality content, audience preferences, and competitor activity.

● Help create and implement a social media strategy for each brand.

● Assist with developing and maintaining a consistent content calendar.

● Capture original photographs and videos at the café, restaurant, catering events, community programs, and behind-the-scenes moments.

● Create, edit, schedule, publish, and distribute compelling social media content.

● Produce short-form videos for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other platforms.

● Write captions that reflect the individual voice and audience of each brand.

● Help tell stories about our food, team, clients, community, local vendors, and partner businesses.

● Create content that promotes catering services, restaurant experiences, café offerings, private events, and community programming.

● Repurpose existing photos, videos, testimonials, press, and event content.

● Collaborate with the leadership, sales, catering, culinary, and operations teams to maintain brand consistency.

● Coordinate with managers before promoting menu items, hours, events, packages, or special offers.

● Communicate with followers and respond to routine comments and questions in a timely and professional manner.

● Route catering inquiries, complaints, partnership requests, and sensitive messages to the appropriate team member.

● Monitor engagement, reach, audience growth, website traffic, inquiries, and other performance indicators.

● Help identify which content is generating meaningful engagement, customer visits, and sales inquiries.

● Assist with maintaining the visual presentation of social media accounts.

● Research relevant hashtags, keywords, local accounts, creators, and community partners.

● Maintain an organized digital library of photographs, videos, graphics, captions, and other brand assets.

● Stay current on social media platforms, content trends, editing tools, design applications, and digital storytelling practices.

● Participate in weekly planning meetings and provide updates on completed content, upcoming priorities, and performance.

● Help maintain a respectful, welcoming, and inclusive digital community.

What You Should Have

● An interest in social media, marketing, hospitality, food, entrepreneurship, or community building.

● Practical knowledge of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

● Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.

● The ability to create original photo, video, and written content.

● Basic knowledge of Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design and editing tools.

● An understanding of social media trends without relying entirely on trends to create content.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

● Good judgment when responding to guests or representing a public-facing brand.

● The ability to manage multiple brands, deadlines, and content priorities.

● Strong organizational and time-management skills.

● The ability to take direction, receive feedback, and revise creative work.

● The initiative to identify content opportunities without waiting to be assigned every post.

● Comfort working in active restaurant, café, kitchen, and event environments.

● An understanding of SEO, keyword research, analytics, and online marketing channels is helpful but not required.

● Prior experience creating social media content is preferred but not required.

● A portfolio, personal social media account, or examples of creative work are encouraged.

What You Will Learn

● How to develop different content strategies within a connected family of brands.

● How hospitality brands use social media to build community and generate revenue.

● How to create content in real restaurant, café, catering, and event environments.

● How to translate brand values into visual and written storytelling.

● How to evaluate social media performance and adjust content accordingly.

● How marketing, sales, operations, and customer service work together.

● How growing businesses build brand awareness with limited time and resources.
