Database Management Specialist

We are seeking qualified Database Management Specialists across three experience levels to support day-to-day and strategic database administration for the Navy ERP SAP environment on NETSS2. Candidates will be placed at the appropriate level based on qualifications, experience, and program needs.

All levels operate within the Platform & Engineering Services team, contributing to performance, availability, and reliability of Oracle and HANA databases that underpin the Navy ERP landscape. Entry-level candidates will support monitoring and routine operations; mid-senior candidates will own complex DBA activities and lead system cycles; principal-level candidates will drive architecture strategy, team leadership, and program governance.


Level I — Database Management Specialist

Entry to Mid-Level · 2+ Years Experience · Starting at $84,000 · Secret Clearance Required

Designed for candidates with foundational Oracle or SAP database administration experience in structured federal or enterprise environments. At this level, the specialist focuses on day-to-day monitoring, routine maintenance, backup management, and supporting senior DBAs on more complex refresh and troubleshooting work.


Level II — Senior Database Management Specialist

Mid to Senior Level · 5+ Years Experience · Starting at $105,000 · Secret Required / TS Preferred

Suited for experienced DBAs who can work independently on complex database activities across Oracle and HANA environments. At this level, the specialist owns performance, availability, and reliability of Navy ERP databases, leads system copy and refresh cycles, drives change management, and mentors junior staff.


Level III — Principal Database Architect

Senior / Principal Level · 8+ Years Experience · Starting at $118,000 · Secret Required / TS Preferred

The most senior database role on NETSS2, responsible for technical leadership across all database activities in the Navy ERP landscape. At this level, the architect defines strategy, leads the DBA team, owns governance and standards, and advises program leadership on risk, capacity, and upgrade planning. Deep SAP HANA or Oracle expertise and prior DoD/federal ERP leadership experience are essential.



RESPONSIBILITIES BY LEVEL


Level I — Entry to Mid-Level | Database Management Specialist

•    Monitor Oracle or HANA database health, availability, and job completion across Navy ERP landscapes

•    Manage tablespace and storage utilization

•    Execute routine DBA tasks: statistics, reorgs, and backup management

•    Support database change requests through the ITSM process

•    Document configurations, changes, and incidents

•    Assist senior DBA with system copies and landscape refresh activities

•    Participate in sprint ceremonies and produce assigned CDRL deliverables


Level II — Mid to Senior Level | Senior Database Management Specialist

•    Own performance monitoring, tuning, and capacity planning for Navy ERP databases

•    Lead system copy, landscape refresh, and backup/DR testing cycles

•    Review and implement database-level changes through formal change management

•    Troubleshoot complex database incidents and escalate to vendor as needed

•    Document database standards, runbooks, and architecture

•    Mentor Level I DBA staff

•    Produce CDRL deliverables and status reporting for program leadership


Level III — Senior / Principal Level | Principal Database Architect

•    Lead database architecture strategy, standards, and governance for Navy ERP landscapes

•    Own database upgrade, migration, and HANA conversion planning

•    Serve as final technical authority on complex DBA incidents and performance issues

•    Lead and develop the DBA team (Level I and II staff)

•    Drive database risk identification and remediation planning

•    Partner with Basis lead and program leadership on infrastructure roadmap

•    Produce executive-level database reporting and CDRL deliverables

•    Represent the database team in PI Planning and SAFe program events


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


All Levels (Required)

•    Active Secret clearance

•    Oracle or SAP HANA database administration experience (years vary by level — see table above)

•    SAP database environment experience

•    DoD or federal IT / program background

•    ITSM / change process familiarity


Level II & III — Additional Requirements

•    Demonstrated performance tuning and troubleshooting in complex SAP environments

•    Change management ownership experience

•    Level III: Experience leading DBA teams and managing database architecture and migration planning


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


All Levels

•    TS/SCI clearance

•    NAVSUP or Navy ERP database background

•    Oracle OCP, SAP HANA Admin, or equivalent DBA certification

•    HANA familiarity (Level I) or HANA conversion/migration experience (Level III)

•    RHEL or Unix system skills

•    SAFe delivery or agile leadership experience

•    Backup/DR architecture experience
