Director of Construction Project Management


Our Client is seeking a high-impact Director of Project Management to lead, develop, and elevate their Project Management function across the organization.

This is not a back-office oversight role — this is a visible leadership position responsible for driving execution excellence, financial performance, team development, and client experience from preconstruction through closeout.

What You’ll Own

🔹 Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor all Project Managers and Senior Project Managers
  • Establish KPIs, accountability standards, and performance metrics
  • Drive hiring, onboarding, coaching, and succession planning
  • Build structured training programs in:
  • Financial acumen
  • Risk management
  • Contract execution
  • Client leadership
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and proactive communication

🔹 Financial Oversight & Project Controls

  • Oversee WIP reporting, forecasting, and margin projections
  • Validate budgets, contingency strategy, and risk exposure
  • Partner closely with Accounting to ensure financial transparency
  • Lead corrective action plans on underperforming projects
  • Standardize dashboards and forecasting systems across the portfolio

🔹 Process Excellence

  • Own and refine project management SOPs and systems
  • Drive consistency across markets and teams
  • Standardize best practices in:
  • Contract management
  • Procurement strategy
  • Schedule management
  • Documentation control
  • Client communication cadence
  • Lead post-project reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

🔹 Cross-Department Leadership

  • Serve as key liaison between:
  • Preconstruction
  • Field Operations
  • Accounting
  • Business Development
  • Executive Leadership
  • Ensure smooth transitions from estimating to execution
  • Resolve interdepartmental friction quickly and constructively

🔹 Client & Market Presence

  • Support client interviews and proposal strategy
  • Maintain executive-level client relationships
  • Identify repeat work and expansion opportunities
  • Represent the organization within industry groups and the community

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of commercial construction experience
  • 5+ years in senior project management or operational leadership
  • Proven track record managing multiple PMs and complex portfolios
  • Strong financial acumen and forecasting expertise
  • Deep understanding of commercial contracts and risk management
  • Demonstrated executive-level client leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
