Organizational Overview: Boxing Out Negativity

Rooted in the belief that young people deserve safety, structure, and unwavering support, Boxing Out Negativity (BON) was founded in 2009 by Coach Derek Brown to combat violence and empower youth through boxing, mentorship, and community connection. BON was created to provide young people with safe, consistent spaces where discipline, positive relationships, and personal development are central to daily experience.

BON provides holistic, community-based programming that supports young people and their families through mentorship, case management, and boxing. BON’s team of mentors and navigators works collaboratively to address both individual and family needs, reducing barriers by offering social-emotional support, academic guidance, employment resources, and goal setting. BON integrates boxing with leadership development, conflict resolution, and discipline, challenging participants physically and mentally while building confidence and life skills. Through this approach, BON drives meaningful impact within the schools and throughout the broader community.
