About the Organization
Lyrasis is a mission-driven nonprofit that provides technology, content, and shared services to libraries, archives, museums, and other knowledge communities. Through its scale, expertise, and collaborative approach, Lyrasis helps these institutions expand access to information, preserve and share cultural heritage, strengthen their technology infrastructure, and increase their impact. Lyrasis is a fully remote organization with a staff of over 110 employees, more than 1,000 member institutions and thousands of other organizations that use its products, services, and programs.
The Opportunity
Lyrasis seeks a strategic Chief Executive Officer to shape the organization’s next era of growth and impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will oversee a $134 million organization with more than 100 employees, including six direct reports across the executive and senior leadership teams.
The next CEO will lead the development of a clear, forward-looking vision and strategy for Lyrasis - bringing greater clarity to who the organization is, where it is going, and the unique role it can play across the library, archive, museum, and knowledge communities. They will connect opportunities across Lyrasis’ diverse portfolio, strengthen its external identity and visibility, and position the organization to expand its relevance and impact.
This leader will bring an entrepreneurial lens to the future, anticipating shifts in technology and the evolving needs of the communities Lyrasis serves and identifying where the organization can innovate, partner, invest, and grow. At the same time, they will be deliberate in how they lead - taking the time to deeply understand Lyrasis’ people, products, services, and stakeholders and building upon what is working before charting what comes next.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in the knowledge and cultural heritage sector, with a strong understanding of the institutions, stakeholders, and evolving landscape Lyrasis serves. They will be energized by the opportunity to lead a complex, evolving organization and bring the strategic perspective to see across Lyrasis’ many areas of work, and the leadership to engage staff, members, customers, partners, and board members in creating a shared vision for the future.
Location, Compensation and Benefits
This is a fully remote position, and the CEO may be based anywhere in the United States. As the external leader of a national and global organization, the CEO will travel regularly to build relationships with members, customers, partners, and other stakeholders, attend industry convenings, and connect in person with Lyrasis’ distributed team.
The anticipated salary range is $350,000 - 380,000, commensurate with experience.
