Prototype Technician

This position focuses on the custom fabrication of specialized mechanical components for research and development purposes. The technician is responsible for creating precise, functional prototypes that meet exacting engineering specifications and serve as the foundation for future manufacturing processes.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Fabricate custom components based on technical specifications and engineering drawings
  • Maintain an organized and efficient workspace following established organizational standards
  • Participate in the development and refinement of manufacturing processes for new products
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate design concepts into functional prototypes
  • Assist in product evaluation and validation procedures as needed
  • Contribute to special projects requiring custom fabrication expertise
  • Document fabrication processes and provide feedback for design improvements


Required Technical Competencies

  • Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent work experience (minimum 2 years)
  • Proficient metalworking skills including manual machining (mill and lathe operations)
  • Experience with material cutting, shaping, and forming techniques
  • Welding capabilities (MIG/TIG) with various metals preferred
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
  • Understanding of geometric principles and their practical applications
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with excellent hands-on skills

  • Comfort working in conditions with exposure to mechanical hazards, dust, and noise


Education and Experience

  • Technical degree or certification in a relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on fabrication experience
  • Background in custom manufacturing or prototype development preferred
  • Experience with precision measurement tools and techniques required
