Our client is seeking a Welding Quality Expert to serve as the ultimate authority on weld integrity and process excellence within our fabrication operations. This role is for a strategic thinker and hands-on leader who will architect and uphold our quality systems. You will be the key liaison between engineering, production, and the customer, ensuring that every weldment not only meets but exceeds the most demanding industry and client-specific standards. This position is critical to our reputation and growth, tasked with building a culture of precision and continuous improvement from the ground up.

Core Responsibilities:

Quality System Architecture & Compliance

• Develop and Govern: Design, implement, and manage the entire welding quality management system, including all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and audit protocols.
• Code Interpretation & Application: Serve as the subject matter expert on all relevant welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1, D14.3). You will translate complex code requirements into practical, actionable standards for the shop floor.
• Documentation & Certification Control: Oversee the complete lifecycle of welding documentation, from the generation and approval of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) to the management and tracking of all welder performance qualifications (WPQ) within our ERP system.

Inspection & Advanced Quality Assurance

• Strategic Inspection Program: Create and execute a multi-layered inspection strategy, incorporating visual, non-destructive (NDT), and destructive testing methodologies as required, to ensure robust quality assurance.
• Technical Blueprint Analysis: Meticulously review engineering drawings, weld symbols, and customer specifications to define precise acceptance criteria and verify compliance.
• Root Cause & Corrective Action: Lead investigations into any non-conformances, performing thorough root cause analysis and driving the implementation of effective, permanent corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Process Engineering & Optimization

• Technical Collaboration: Partner directly with engineering and production teams to refine welding processes, optimize fixture design, and select appropriate materials to enhance manufacturability, efficiency, and first-pass quality.
• New Product Introduction: Provide hands-on quality support for first-article production, ensuring new and complex parts are established with a robust and repeatable process from the very beginning.
• Data-Driven Improvement: Analyze production and quality data to identify trends, pinpoint opportunities for improvement, and lead initiatives that reduce waste and rework.

Leadership, Training & Customer Engagement

• Mentorship & Skill Development: Develop and deliver targeted training programs for welders, inspectors, and downstream departments, elevating the entire team's technical capabilities and quality awareness.
• Champion a Quality Culture: Act as the driving force for a culture where quality is everyone's responsibility, fostering an environment of accountability, consistency, and pride in workmanship.
• Customer Quality Interface: Serve as a technical point of contact for customers on quality-related matters, confidently communicating our processes and validating our capabilities to secure and maintain business.
