The Role:

ForMotiv, a rapidly growing startup at the cutting edge of web and AI, is seeking an energetic Backend Engineer to join our innovative team. We're looking for a software engineer with a strong backend focus who thrives on challenging problems and is excited to work with industry experts. In this role, you'll be at the heart of developing our high-volume, high-speed behavioral collection platform and related tooling. You'll work with Python services in a serverless, container-based AWS environment, architecting and optimizing data solutions across multiple stores, including an S3/Redshift/Iceberg data lake and real-time Postgres RDS service. Collaborating directly with technology, data science, and management teams, you'll solve real customer problems at the intersection of web technology and AI. Responsibilities:

• Work with Product Engineering, Product Management, Platform Engineering and Data Science to understand and refine service and data requirements, ensuring that services are in-line with architectural and operational needs.
• As part of the Engineering Team, provide feature and service development and bug resolution for our server and data collection platforms.
• Understand and contribute to our leveraging of AWS services. Evaluate and test new technologies to enhance ForMotiv’s offerings

Qualifications:

• 4 year computer science or related degree (highly recommended, but may be waived with relevant experience)
• At least 3 years of Python API/web backend experience is required. This position will spend a significant portion of time coding back-end services.  
• 2 years of SQL experience 
• Experience working with containers and other serverless technologies is highly desired.  
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Solid understanding of mathematics, especially statistics
• Machine Learning or Data Science experience is not required, but is a plus
• Willingness to work with frontier AI software development tools without being fully reliant on them
• Self-motivated, proactive, organized and a willingness to learn.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, unstructured environment
• Eager to wear multiple hats and lend a hand to your teammates when called upon
