Assistant Vice President, Commercial Lines Underwriting

Location: Seattle, WA | On-site

Salary: $200,000–$240,000

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Vice President, Commercial Lines Underwriting to lead commercial underwriting teams, shape underwriting strategy, and drive profitable growth while maintaining strong risk management, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop underwriting leaders and teams.
• Develop strategies and business plans supporting profitable growth, retention, pricing, and portfolio performance.
• Partner with Product, Actuarial, Claims, Sales, and other teams to improve results.
• Manage agency/vendor relationships and ensure adherence to underwriting standards and regulations.
• Monitor market trends and competitive conditions to identify opportunities.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, high-performing culture.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of P&C insurance leadership experience with a strong commercial underwriting background.
• Proven experience leading underwriting teams and managing commercial books of business.
• Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products and underwriting practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
• Experience with underwriting systems, pricing tools, and analytics.
• Bachelor's degree and insurance designation (CPCU, CIC, CRM) preferred.
