Liability Claims Adjuster (Public Entity) REMOTE California

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Liability Claims Adjuster and Senior Liability Adjuster to join their team, on a temp to hire basis. This is a dedicated role supporting TPA clients. This position requires a strong focus on client service, relationship management, communication, and collaboration.

Under the direction of the Liability Manager, the Claims Adjuster will investigate, evaluate, and resolve liability and property claims, including general and commercial liability losses, as well as auto and truck claims. The role requires adherence to the company claims manual and compliance with State of California laws and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have strong investigative and analytical skills and experience managing third-party liability claims while maintaining strong client relationships. This role may also provide direction to assigned Administrative Assistants to ensure timely and accurate claims handling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, analyze, and evaluate third-party liability and property claims.
  • Evaluate claims for government code compliance, immunities, denial, subrogation, and investigation of loss issues.
  • Request and review documentation from claimants, clients, witnesses, and other involved parties.
  • Handle various casualty losses including:
  • General liability bodily injury
  • Property damage
  • Litigated claims
  • Conduct interviews and correspondence with claimants, witnesses, client contacts, and law enforcement agencies.
  • Determine the nature and extent of injuries or property damage and obtain supporting documentation.
  • Maintain a daily/weekly diary system to track claims activity, statutory deadlines, and payments (diary intervals not exceeding 90 days).
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive claim documentation within the claims management system.
  • Prepare and deliver timely client reporting in accordance with client guidelines.
  • Establish and monitor appropriate claim reserves, reviewing reserve adequacy regularly.
  • Recommend claim closure when appropriate (30–90 day review intervals).
  • Refer claims to defense counsel with client or manager approval while maintaining financial and claim oversight.
  • Evaluate, negotiate, settle, or deny claims within established authority levels and office guidelines.
  • Negotiate claim settlements and resolve lien issues when applicable.
  • Prepare and present claim status reports to clients and participate in client meetings as needed.
  • Monitor claims for excess retention limits and submit reports to excess carriers when required.
  • Ensure timely and accurate claim payments to the appropriate parties.
  • Handle claims in good faith in accordance with statutes, case law, and company standards.
  • Serve as an Account Representative, assisting clients with claim-related issues and conducting field investigations when necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Public Entity Liability Adjusting experience
  • Strong knowledge of tort and statutory laws related to public entity claims
  • Knowledge of government code immunities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with appropriate auto insurance

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based (home office or corporate office environment).
  • Occasional field investigations may be required.
  • Field work may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and environments including:
  • Construction sites
  • Traffic areas
  • Uneven surfaces or outdoor locations
  • Standard indoor office setting in a temperature-controlled environment.
