Terms:                  Full Time, Exempt

Location:             Southern California (Field-Based, Hybrid)


The Premium Auditor independently conducts on-site workers’ compensation audits and serves as the primary contact for insureds throughout the audit process. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and regulatory knowledge to produce accurate, compliant audit results. The position supports continuous improvement through effective use of data, technology, and emerging tools, including AI, to enhance audit efficiency and accuracy.

Essential Duties

·       Conduct physical, on-site premium audits by collecting, reviewing, and analyzing payroll and operational data from insureds

·       Serve as the primary point of contact for insureds throughout the audit process, providing clear guidance and professional communication

·       Determine final auditable exposures and prepare accurate, well-documented audit findings

·       Ensure audits comply with applicable workers’ compensation rules, bureau regulations (WCIRB/NCCI), and state-specific exceptions

·       Collaborate with internal teams, agents, insureds, and regulatory bureaus to address questions, resolve discrepancies, and support dispute resolution

·       Independently manage assigned audit workload, meeting deadlines while maintaining accuracy and thorough documentation

·       Escalate issues, inconsistencies, or compliance concerns appropriately

·       Utilize Excel and internal systems to organize, analyze, and present audit data efficiently

·       Stay current on industry changes, regulatory updates, and evolving audit tools and technology

·       Travel throughout the greater Southern California Region with occasional Northern California travel as needed  

·       Other duties as assigned

 

Experience, Education, and Certifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of payroll and/or premium audit experience
  • Experience working with WCIRB and/or NCCI
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience or a combination of education and experience will be considered
  • APA designation or progress toward APA preferred
  • WCIRB CompEssentials Certificate preferred

·                      Strong working knowledge of workers’ compensation policies and premium audit procedures

·                      Ability to work independently and unsupervised in the field and office environments

·                      Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

·                      Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional, client-focused approach

·                      High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

·                      Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with advanced or strong working knowledge of Excel

·                      Openness to continued learning, including the use of AI and automation tools to improve audit processes

·                      Bi-Lingual in Spanish a plus
