Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Florida-licensed Registered Nurse to serve as Director of Nursing. This nursing leadership position oversees medical and nursing services, supports appropriate clinical protocols and patient care, supervises nursing staff, and leads infection-control activities. Candidates must have direct RN patient-care experience in substance use disorder treatment or mental health care. Experience across both is preferred. This is a hands-on leadership role at a smaller residential behavioral health treatment center; the DON must be willing to provide direct patient care and work alongside nursing staff when needed. Training is available for the right nursing leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee nursing and medical-service operations and support compliance with established clinical policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise nursing staff and support staff scheduling, performance, documentation, and day-to-day operations.
  • Serve as the Infection Control Designee, including infection-control education, training, tracking, and incident reporting.
  • Review clinical documentation and patient charts for accuracy, completeness, and required sign-off.
  • Collaborate with medical, clinical, administrative, pharmacy, and ancillary service providers.
  • Support emergency procedures, regulatory compliance, accreditation standards, and quality initiatives.
  • Maintain and support a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and staff.
  • Provide hands-on nursing support and direct patient care when needed, including working on the floor alongside the nursing team.
  • Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to help ensure appropriate patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, nursing staff, clinical staff, and administrative leadership.
  • Remain available for on-call medical consultations and nursing staff management needs, including call-outs.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Florida.
  • Nursing leadership experience as a Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, or similar supervisory role. Candidates ready to advance into a DON position are encouraged to apply.
  • Direct clinical experience as an RN in substance use disorder treatment or mental health treatment is required. Experience in both is preferred.
  • Experience with infection-control protocols.
  • Strong nursing assessment, leadership, organization, delegation, and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to direct and schedule nursing staff in accordance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of electronic medical records.
  • Ability to complete a national background check.

Preferred Experience

Prior Director of Nursing experience, experience in both substance use disorder and mental health treatment, and residential detox or co-occurring-disorders experience are preferred, not required. Emergency room, critical care, or urgent care experience is a plus.

Work Environment

The position is primarily performed indoors in a healthcare environment and may involve exposure to infectious diseases. Duties may include periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, and occasional lifting.
