Avento Health is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse for a full-time night shift position at a high-acuity, Level IV maternal facility in the Texas Medical Center. This role is ideal for an L&D RN who thrives in fast-paced environments, delivers exceptional patient care, and wants to work within a top-performing women’s services unit.
Position Overview
The L&D RN provides comprehensive inpatient obstetric care, including labor management, fetal monitoring, delivery support, and postpartum recovery. You will collaborate closely with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, evidence-based care for mothers and newborns.
Schedule
Full-Time Nights Only
No day shift, no part-time, no transfers, and no promotional opportunities available. Only candidates specifically seeking night shift will be considered.
Required Qualifications
Active Texas RN license or active multi-state compact RN license
License must be clear of any stipulations or disciplinary actions
BSN required (no ADN accepted)
3–5 years of recent acute-care Labor & Delivery experience (required, non-negotiable)
Updated, accurate resume with complete job history (dates and units must be correct)
Exclusive night-shift availability
Preferred Qualifications
Extended women’s services experience
Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team
Clear alignment with night shift—candidates who accept nights “just for the job” typically do not pass hiring leader review
What You’ll Do
Provide hands-on labor, delivery, triage, and antepartum nursing care
Monitor fetal and maternal status and respond promptly to changes
Assist with high-risk and complex deliveries in a Level IV maternal environment
Educate patients and families throughout labor and postpartum recovery
Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff for safe, coordinated care
Document all care accurately and maintain regulatory compliance
Participate in ongoing quality and safety initiatives
Unit Snapshot
Level IV maternal facility
High-volume unit with 400–450 deliveries per month
12 labor rooms, 19 antepartum beds, 4 swing beds
Strong support system, excellent training, and opportunities for skill advancement
Candidate Profile Notes
New grads and ADN candidates are not eligible
Experience must be hospital-based in acute-care Labor & Delivery
Candidates in PA/NP/MSN programs are typically declined due to tenure concerns
Recent travel-only backgrounds may raise concerns unless strong perm L&D experience exists
