Avento Health is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse for a full-time permanent night shift opportunity within a high-acuity obstetric unit in the Texas Medical Center. This role is best suited for a strong L&D RN with recent high-risk delivery experience who is fully committed to working nights long term.

Position Overview

The Labor & Delivery RN provides comprehensive inpatient obstetric care including labor management, fetal monitoring, circulating, and delivery support. This unit requires nurses who can independently manage high-risk deliveries and function autonomously on night shift.

Schedule

  • Full-Time Nights Only
  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 12-hour shifts
  • Monday–Sunday coverage
  • Rotating schedule (no set schedule)
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required

This is a permanent night-shift role. The hiring manager requires a 3–4 year commitment to nights. There is no movement to day shift in the foreseeable future.

Part-time roles are not available.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Texas RN license or active multi-state compact RN license
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association required)
  • Minimum 3–5+ years of recent and continuous acute-care Labor & Delivery experience (non-negotiable)
  • Experience with high-risk deliveries (required)
  • Must be able to circulate and deliver babies independently
  • Strong, primary L&D background (ICU, Med Surg, or mixed experience does not substitute for required L&D years)
  • Full commitment to long-term night shift

Compensation

  • Salary range is non-negotiable
  • No sign-on bonus offered
  • Night/weekend differentials vary by campus and are provided during the internal recruitment process

Relocation

  • Mileage reimbursement may be available for candidates relocating from 75+ miles away
  • Relocation approval is unit-dependent and not guaranteed

What You’ll Do

  • Provide hands-on labor and delivery nursing care in a high-acuity setting
  • Monitor fetal and maternal status and respond to clinical changes
  • Circulate and assist with deliveries, including high-risk cases
  • Collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
  • Deliver safe, evidence-based care to mothers and newborns
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation

Candidate Profile Notes

  • Candidates must have 3–5+ years of recent L&D experience — no exceptions
  • New graduates and RNs with under 3 years of L&D experience will not be considered
  • Candidates seeking eventual day shift should not apply
  • Candidates expecting salary negotiation or sign-on bonus should not apply
