Nurse Practitioner (NP) – Addiction Medicine (1099 Contractor)

Avento Health has partnered with a leading substance use disorder (SUD) treatment center in Northern California to identify a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a 1099 contract opportunity in Glen Ellen, CA. This role supports adults in a structured residential treatment environment and focuses on medical assessments, medication management, and addiction-focused care for clients with co-occurring behavioral health needs.
What You’ll Do
- Complete new admission medical evaluations (history, assessment, and review of labs/toxicology)
- Identify and treat acute and chronic medical issues commonly seen in SUD populations
- Prescribe and manage medication-assisted treatment (MAT) when clinically appropriate (e.g., buprenorphine/Suboxone, naltrexone/Vivitrol)
- Initiate and adjust psychotropic medications for co-occurring mental health conditions as appropriate
- Monitor medication response, side effects, and adherence; adjust treatment plans as needed
- Provide clinical oversight for withdrawal management protocols when applicable
- Collaborate with counselors, therapists, nursing staff, and consulting physicians as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Participate in clinical rounds and/or case conferences to support treatment planning and continuity of care
- Coordinate referrals to specialty care or higher levels of care when clinically indicated
- Maintain timely, accurate documentation in the EMR and follow applicable regulatory and DEA standards
What a Typical Day May Look Like
- Conduct 1–3 intake assessments for new clients
- Provide follow-up medication management visits
- Review labs/toxicology and adjust medications as needed
- Join team check-ins or weekly case conferences
- Respond to urgent clinical concerns in a residential setting
- Complete EMR documentation, orders, and care coordination
Requirements
- Active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license
- Board Certification as an NP (FNP preferred; PMHNP welcome)
- Active DEA license (or ability to obtain immediately)
- Experience in addiction medicine, substance use treatment, behavioral health, or primary care with SUD populations
- Comfort prescribing MAT and managing common co-occurring psychiatric medications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in residential treatment and/or detox settings
- Experience working with dual diagnosis / co-occurring disorders
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care
- Strong documentation habits and a compliance-minded approach

- Competitive hourly contract rate (dependent on experience)
