Avento Health is recruiting for a Director of ICU opportunity with a healthcare organization in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This is a senior nursing leadership role for an experienced RN leader with a strong background in acute care, team leadership, quality improvement, and ICU operations.


This opportunity is ideal for a nursing leader who can drive clinical excellence, support staff development, and lead departmental performance in a fast-paced hospital environment.


Position Overview

The Director of ICU is responsible for overseeing the operational, clinical, and strategic performance of the Intensive Care Unit. This leader will help ensure high-quality patient care, strong staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across the department.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for ICU operations, staff, and clinical performance
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and foster a culture focused on patient safety and clinical excellence
  • Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff and department leadership
  • Collaborate with physicians, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve outcomes and operational efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in critical care
  • Monitor departmental goals, performance metrics, staffing effectiveness, and patient care standards
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team focused on accountability, quality, and service excellence


Required Qualifications

  • Current or eligible New Mexico RN license
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • 7+ years of healthcare experience
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting
  • Experience building and leading teams focused on quality initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree strongly preferred, including MSN, MBA, or Master’s in Healthcare Administration
  • Experience in a for-profit hospital setting
  • Experience building collaborative relationships with providers and cross-functional stakeholders
