Registered Nurse (RN) — Medications Manager (On-site)


Location: Glen Ellen, CA

Job Type: Full-time

Work Setting: On-site | Behavioral Health / Substance Use Treatment

Pay: $42–$52 per hour

Schedule: 40 hours per week. Tuesday- Saturday or Sunday- Thursday 6am - 2:30pm.


Avento Health is recruiting for a behavioral health treatment provider in Glen Ellen, CA. The RN Medications Manager oversees safe medication practices, supports clinically managed sub-acute detox, and coordinates medication-related client care. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented RN with behavioral health experience who can lead medication operations, uphold regulatory compliance, and provide trauma-informed support to clients during stabilization and early recovery.


What You’ll Do (Core Responsibilities)

  • Oversee and support client self-administration of medications in accordance with safety protocols and regulatory standards
  • Conduct clinical assessments to monitor withdrawal symptoms and follow detox protocols for safe, clinically managed withdrawal
  • Provide trauma-informed education to clients on medication use, risks, benefits, and side effects
  • Consult and collaborate with physicians/medical providers to support detox protocols and medication planning
  • Maintain secure oversight of the medications room, including inventory control, storage compliance, and accurate documentation
  • Train, mentor, and support staff involved in medication handling and administration processes
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing controlled substances and behavioral health facilities
  • Partner with managed care functions to support chart quality


Detailed Duties

  • Consults on the development of all policies and procedures related to medications, infection control, and other medical issues
  • Consults with the Executive Director on state licensing regulations and accreditation procedures regarding medication management
  • Consults with professional medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health professionals on an as-needed basis
  • Consults on the development of policies and procedures related to client emergency care
  • Communicates with clients, families, referral sources, and the team in a manner that demonstrates respect, teamwork, and dedicated professionalism
  • Cares for detoxing clients as outlined in the policy and procedure manual
  • Monitors client medications by observing self-administration and documenting medications taken and the client’s response
  • Monitors clients’ vital signs
  • Assesses clients’ clinical needs and consults with clients’ physicians to coordinate care
  • Consults with the organization’s pharmacy consultant regarding medication procedures
  • Responds to client medical emergencies
  • Maintains and keeps client medication records current and charts as appropriate
  • Consults with Managed Care leadership regarding pre-admission certification and concurrent reviews
  • Places calls to health professionals involved in continuing care
  • Consults as needed with the organization-wide Performance Improvement Plan
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to a diverse group of clients who vary in age, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, drugs of choice, and other factors; provides services in a culturally appropriate manner
  • May conduct admission procedures for new clients, including orientation to the program
  • Maintains confidentiality of client and employee information


Requirements (Must Have)

  • Current California RN license
  • Education and experience demonstrating preparation to work effectively with chemically dependent clients who need to self-administer medications during treatment
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification


Skills and Abilities

  • Understanding of the treatment process for chemically dependent clients
  • Good understanding of 12 Step Recovery Programs and other peer support groups
  • Competence in working effectively with co-occurring disorders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, including clients, family members, colleagues, and visitors
  • Competence in understanding and following medication procedures
  • Current understanding of medications used for detoxification, psychiatric disorders, and cravings
  • Ability to work within clear ethical guidelines
