Associate Therapist – Family Systems
Location: Virtual, California
Job Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Work Setting: Virtual clinical services supporting a detox and residential treatment program
Schedule: 25–30 hours per week, including evening family sessions and one Saturday per month
Pay: $34–$38 per hour
Overview
A California-based detox and residential treatment program is seeking an Associate Therapist – Family Systems to support a structured family program for clients receiving substance use and dual diagnosis treatment.
This is a virtual, 1099 contract role for an associate-level clinician registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. The role is ideal for an AMFT, ACSW, or APCC with treatment experience who is interested in family systems work, recovery education, and residential behavioral health care.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate a structured family program using an established curriculum
- Lead virtual psychoeducational groups for families and loved ones of clients in treatment
- Conduct family sessions with clients and their support systems
- Support family engagement in a dual diagnosis detox and residential treatment setting
- Collaborate with case managers, administrative staff, and the broader treatment team to coordinate scheduling and care needs
- Maintain appropriate clinical boundaries and documentation standards
- Help families better understand treatment, recovery, communication, boundaries, and the role of family systems in healing
Required Qualifications
- Active registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT, ACSW, or APCC
- Ability to provide clinical services in California within the scope of associate-level registration
- Experience in substance use treatment, dual diagnosis treatment, or another treatment-focused behavioral health setting
- Family systems experience
- Comfort facilitating virtual groups and family sessions
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently while staying closely connected with the treatment team
- Evening availability for family sessions
- Availability for one Saturday per month
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in detox, residential treatment, substance use treatment, or dual diagnosis care
- Experience facilitating groups or psychoeducational sessions
- Experience working with families, couples, or client support systems
- Familiarity with relapse prevention, communication skills, boundaries, and recovery education
