Title: Chief Financial Officer
Location: Phoenix, AZ
Salary: $145,000 -160,000
This Chief Financial Officer will serve as a key strategic partner to the owner of a growing construction-focused organization. The role requires a hands-on finance leader who can execute daily financial operations and help guide long-term strategy. This is not a ceremonial executive position, this leader must actively own the numbers, strengthen internal controls, and bring disciplined financial oversight to support continued growth.
Your role:
• Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, cash flow management, and profitability analysis.
• Establish and enforce strong financial controls and approval processes to prevent fraud and ensure accountability.
• Partner directly with the owner to evaluate financial decisions, investments, and growth initiatives.
• Provide clear, data-driven recommendations and confidently push back when financial risk outweighs opportunity.
• Oversee the controller and future accounting hires while remaining hands-on in core financial functions.
• Collaborate with the external accounting firm to ensure compliance, tax strategy, and accurate reporting.
• Develop financial models and long-term planning strategies that support sustainable expansion.
• Monitor profitability and performance metrics, aligning incentive structures with company results.
• Create transparency across the organization through clear communication and honest reporting.
What you’ve got:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; advanced credentials are welcome.
• 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally within small to mid-sized businesses.
• Proven ability to build and enforce internal controls and safeguard company assets.
• Experience supporting acquisitions and integrating financial processes across entities.
• Strong operational knowledge with willingness to execute detailed financial work when needed.
• Background in construction or related project-based industries preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work with strong ownership personalities and provide direct, candid feedback.
• High integrity with a track record of transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.
• Comfortable in a hands-on, no-drama environment focused on results and growth.
• Interest in contributing to a collaborative culture while maintaining executive-level discipline.
• Experience in construction accounting or job-costing environments.
• Prior experience working directly with family-owned or founder-led business is preferred.
