Program Overview

Unlock your potential with the LA Tech Rising Internship Program (IT, Cybersecurity & Software Engineering)! This paid internship program offers a dynamic opportunity for young talent aged 18 to 24 to dive into the tech world while learning from experienced professionals in the field. Throughout the program, you’ll participate in interactive workshops covering essential skills, including technical knowledge, effective communication, and self-marketing strategies (personal branding) that will set you apart in the industry. This program focuses on IT/Cybersecurity and Software Engineering. You will have the option to choose between these two pathways, based on which one best aligns with your skills and interests. 

What Interns Get: 

• Relevant work experience: Work on impactful projects with an industry mentor and collaborate with peers. 
• 1-on-1 mentorship: Get matched with tech professionals who have been in your shoes and can help you figure out your next career step. 
• Mock interviews and tech practice: Sharpen your skills and gain the confidence to crush your next interview. 
• Guest speaker sessions: Hear straight from industry leaders about what it takes to thrive in tech. 
• Career workshops: Learn how to communicate your story, build your personal brand, and stand out on LinkedIn and beyond. 
• Peer community: Connect with other interns across Los Angeles -- because this journey is better together. 

Mandatory Engagements: 

• Attend the virtual live sessions every Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00-6:30 pm
• Attend the In-person intern retreat (TBD)
• Attend the in-person celebration ceremony (TBD)
• Attend at least two virtual professional development workshops (hosted monthly) 

Choose Your Career Track:

• IT & Cybersecurity -- Protect data and digital threats, and explore the systems that power the digital space. 
• Software Engineering -- Learn how to build websites, apps, and tools that solve real-world problems. 

You will pick the path that fits your interests--and we will guide you every step of the way. 

Requirements and Eligibility

Required Qualifications:

• Be between the ages of 18 and 24
• Currently reside in Los Angeles or Los Angeles County (proof will be required if selected) 
• Able to commit 10-15 hours/week, including mandatory live virtual sessions every Tuesday/Thursday from 4:00-6:30 pm 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Some exposure to technical projects (even on your own) or a keen interest in wanting to learn more about technical concepts
• Experience working in collaborative teams 
• Prior experience in extracurricular activities demonstrating leadership skills and willingness to learn and grow

• LA-Tech.org connects LA’s tech community to talented underrepresented individuals in Los Angeles. We aim to unite the tech community around common civic goals and bring economic opportunities to LA’s underserved communities. Our four pillars: educate, mobilize, connect & amplify.
• Location
• The LA Tech Rising Program only operates in Los Angeles County. Applicants who do not have a Los Angeles-based address will not be eligible for consideration at this time.



Wage Information

This internship is paid and made possible through our partnership with LA County's Youth@Work Program. Compensation is set at California's minimum wage and is not negotiable. Learn more about the Youth@Work Program here.
